When we last checked in on the battle for the final spot in the Cubs rotation, Brett Anderson (LHP, CHC) and Mike Montgomery (LHP, CHC) were the two front-runners. The oft-injured Anderson has managed to stay healthy and on Thursday, Joe Maddon named him to the rotation. Though Anderson has given up 9 ER in 11.1 IP through five spring appearances, he has 9 K with no walks or home runs allowed.

His injury concerns and past usage as a starter (115 GS out of 127 career appearances) were another point in his favor, something Maddon acknowledged.
