In last week’s column, we discussed some of the long-term concerns about the state of the Cardinals’ pitching staff, but it’s also fair to question how they plan to get through this season if they hope to compete. Matthew Liberatore (LHP, STL) hasn’t been able to carry his momentum from AAA Memphis to St. Louis, posting a minuscule SwK (7.2) and K% (15) to go along with a bloated BB% (10). He’s expected to have his spot in the rotation skipped this week due to the doubleheader the team had on Saturday. Steven Matz (LHP, STL), in what should be an audition to re-enter the rotation, looks to be the leading candidate to draw the start Wednesday against Miami.
