Willson Contreras (C, CHC) trade watch came and went at the trade deadline this season, but the Cubs will either need to re-sign him or let him walk this offseason. There’s significant reason to believe the Cubs are planning to retain Contreras, first because of their failure to move him at the deadline and also due to his apparent desire to remain in Chicago. If that’s the case, the Cubs’ catching situation could look very similar in 2023, as Yan Gomes (C, CHC) remains under contract.
