But the Mariners' surge suddenly has them in the post-season's final Wild Card spot, making pre-trade deadline moves more likely than ever. A pitching staff with a 2.79 ERA in July, trailing only the Mets among MLB clubs over this month, has fueled the recent surge. An offense that has struggled to score runs all season (19th in scoring among MLB teams in July) points to the most obvious area in need of upgrades.
