The winter was spent shoring up MLB depth, since once again one of baseball's worst farm systems is unlikely to help the club much in 2017. Danny Espinosa (SS/2B, LAA) was acquired from WAS to be the primary at second baseman, while newcomers Cameron Maybin and Ben Revere will fight for left-field ABs. But in terms of overall playing time ripples and roster versatility, the most impactful off-season acquisition was free agent Luis Valbuena (3B/1B, LAA) who now has a two-year LAA contract with a mutual option.
