We've spent far, FAR too much time recently discussing the wretched state of the club's non-Walsh infield, so Luis Rengifo's (2B/SS, LAA) recent production is at least newsworthy. Rengifo's year-to-date—.241/.286/.399, 5 HR through 169 PA—has been meh, but it was abysmal until the past few weeks. Since June 18, Rengifo has been one of the club's better hitters, going 18-for-58 with 8 xBH (including 3 HR) and 3 walks. The mini-surge amidst LAA's offensive crash-and-burn has given Rengifo near-complete control of 2B, where he'd started 17 of the club's last 18 games before moving to SS on Sunday in place of .167-hitting Andrew Velazquez.
Rengifo's recent small-sample bottom-line numbers don't jump off the page. But...
