A glaring weakness in the early Opening Day roster projection was the lack of an obvious backup center fielder, particularly on a wannabe-contender for whom pitchers will need all the help they can get. Most-of-the-time right fielder Dexter Fowler (OF, LAA) has played the position but as a defensive liability, particularly now at age 35. Taylor Ward (OF, LAA) was the outfielder off the bench, but he was still learning the corner OF ropes after transitioning from 3B, and is now taking catcher reps again.

Now suddenly non-roster-invitee Juan Lagares (OF, LAA) has caught fire at the plate this spring, going 8-for-19 with just 2 Ks, a walk and 3 SB in as many attempts. And the one thing that Lagares has consistently...
