Following a ferocious mid-season surge into contendership, the rotation is suddenly in trouble looking toward the September stretch. Both staff ace Sean Manaea (rotator cuff tendinitis) and Brett Anderson (forearm strain) were DL'd within a couple of days of each other. Announced replacements Daniel Mengden (RHP, OAK)—4.28/4.74 ERA/xERA thru 95 MLB IP—and Frankie Montas (RHP, OAK)—3.75/4.74 ERA/xERA—aren't good bets to contribute plus efforts in their place. Montas's stuff, improving control, and a 12% SwK over his last four OAK starts in July give fantasy owners a longer term future to dream on.
