“Buy skills, not roles” is a time-honored BaseballHQ.com mantra. But what do you do when you have two players with elite skills and one wide-open closer role? That’s the conundrum fantasy bidders will face when assessing the relative value of Dellin Betances (RHP, NYY) and Andrew Miller (LHP, NYY).

Lefty bias—and his ultra-dominant breakout season—has led many to assume that Betances will assume the ninth-inning role. With a whopping 13.5 Dom and 5.6 Cmd, Betances would clearly seem to have the goods to get the job done.

But here is the “devil’s advocate” argument in Miller’s favor:

  • Locking Betances into the ninth inning would almost be a waste. A total of 35 times last season, Betances was asked to get four outs or...
