As noted in Playing Time Today, the exodus of Zach Britton (LHP, NYY) and Brad Brach (RHP, ATL) has left Mychal Givens (RHP, BAL) with the inside track to ninth-inning opportunities in Baltimore (such that they are). Givens’ work of late (5.2 IP, 6 ER, 10 H, 3 BB, 6 K in last seven appearances) casts some doubt on whether Givens can rise to the occasion.

Analyst Matt Dodge mentioned Mike Wright (RHP, BAL) as another possibility due to the “small fire” he had put out on July 29. However, Wright has never exhibited skills—either as a starter or reliever—that say he will be able to get outs consistently, and he has followed up that July 29 appearance by giving up a home run while getting one out August 1 and yielding...
