Closer Brad Boxberger (RHP, TAM) has hit a bit of a rough patch, yielding five ERs and two HRs in his past five IP while blowing his first save of the season Wednesday, June 3.

Into the breach has stepped Kevin Jepsen (RHP, TAM), who recorded saves on back-to-back days June 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, the work of Jake McGee (LHP, TAM) in his first seven innings has been very impressive from a skills perspective: 11 Ks, no walks and a whopping 20 percent swinging-strike rate.

Metrics like that make McGee a better long-term bet than Jepsen to grab a bigger share of the Rays’ save load, should Boxberger’s struggles persist. And persist they might: Struggles with first-pitch strikes (57% FpK) have led Boxberger’s control to head back...
