PT TOMORROW: AL East—Is Britton ready for big time?

It was noted in this space last week that change seemed imminent in the back end of the Baltimore bullpen. While manager Buck Showalter has been mum about his intentions going forward, that change may have arrived this past week in the form of Zach Britton (LHP, BAL) who notched a smooth save May 15 with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, all on ground balls.

Those grounders boosted Britton’s ground-ball rate on the season to a staggering 84% through Saturday. As noted above, Showalter has not declared who will get the team’s next save chance, but reading the few tea leaves we have, it very well could be Britton.
