As chronicled in Playing Time Today recently, the Yankees’ lineup — and bullpen, for that matter — are in such disarray currently that one should perhaps not read too much into recent usage patterns.

Nonetheless, it may bear watching the degree to which Matt Carpenter (3B, NYY) can take advantage of his current window of playing time.

That is especially true now that the stay of Josh Donaldson (3B, NYY) has transformed from one related to COVID-19 to a potentially more troublesome issue with his shoulder. Donaldson dealt with a similar inflammation issue — along with calf problems — when he missed 125 games in 2019.
