After checking in on the Yankees’ left field battle last week in this space, this week we will review where the competition to serve as the team’s starting shortstop stands.

To review, at the time BaseballHQ’s organization report on the Yankees was written, Oswald Peraza (SS, NYY), the team’s No. 4 prospect, was deemed “ready defensively and seemingly with the bat,” which was supposed to allow Anthony Volpe (SS, NYY), the team’s No. 1 prospect, time to exhibit mastery of Triple-A pitching after he struggled to do so at the end of last season. That perspective was not unique.

However, since spring training has begun, Volpe has done everything he can to upend that pecking order. On March 12, Volpe launched his second home...
