The Twins have offered some flimsy excuses for why Byron Buxton (CF, MIN) won't be added to the roster in September (his wrist isn't fully healed—though he seemed fine in the 12 games he played at AAA-Rochester in August, batting .365/.400/.596; there's not enough playing time available—so it can be saved for the likes of Robbie Grossman and Johnny Field??), but it's pretty clearly a service time decision designed to buy Minnesota another year of team control before Buxton hits free agency, now after the 2022 season.

Still, Buxton's deeply disappointing 2018 (.156 BA, .383 OPS, 0 HR, 5 SB in 90 AB) and the sustained breakout of Jake Cave (OF, MIN) (now at .268/.316/.505 over 190 AB) while filling in for Buxton have raised...
