PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Brian Dozier: 40/40?

Minnesota Twins

One of the surprising stats of early May is Brian Dozier’s (2B, MIN) 11 SB to lead the AL. Dozier stole more than 20 only one time in the minors. In his previous two seasons with the Twins, he stole 9 and 14 bases. However, manager Ron Gardenhire has the Twins running much more this year. The Twins are on pace to steal 128 bases compared with the 52 they stole in 2013. If Dozier continues to leadoff (last year he hit leadoff only half the time) and continues his SB success (caught once in 12 tries), he may steal as many as 30 this year. Dozier is also among the league leaders in HR with 8 through Sunday, but his 21% hr/f rate is not sustainable. BaseballHQ.com forecasts an additional 16 HR for Dozier this season.
