Since BaseballHQ’s Doug Dennis looked at the Twins bullpen situation on April 18, three straight bad outings by Alex Colomé (RHP, MIN) have pushed him back to the middle innings to sort things out. With only three clean outings in his nine 2021 appearances to date (after posting 18 clean outings in his 21 appearances during 2020), there are a few troubling signs. Colomé’s 11.1% swinging strike rate (SwK) this far in 2021 is his lowest since 2015 (the last season in which he was used as both a starter and a reliever), and he has also been very hittable (41% H%) in 2021, with more than a third of those hits (34%) being line drives.
