DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: AL Central—Bonifacio contributing in KC

After being traded from the Jays, Emilio Bonifácio (2B/OF, KC) started five games in a row for the Royals. He had two starts in CF and three at 3B, and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. Bonifacio’s season stats are not impressive (.221/.263/.327), but since July 1 he has hit .270 with a .341 OBP; and he's impressed via July and August xBAs (.281 and .262, respectively). A reason for Bonifacio’s slow start could be due to rust;  he missed the second half of 2012 and did not have a full spring training.

With Bonifacio’s versatility (he can play 2B, 3B, SS, and all three outfield positions), Miguel Tejada’s (2B/3B, KC) suspension and Elliot Johnson’s (2B/SS, KC) DFA, Bonifacio should get significant playing...
