Two weeks ago in this space, we examined Boston’s middle infield situation, which appeared to be fairly settled at the time, with David Hamilton receiving the majority of reps at second base and Ceddanne Rafaela receiving the majority of reps at shortstop. However, since then, Hamilton suffered a left index finger fracture, endangering his status for the rest of the season.

For the time being, it appears Boston will rotate its second base duties with Nick Sogard, Enmanuel Valdez, and Romy González all standing the chance to receive some opportunities, while catchers Connor Wong and Mickey Gasper could also receive spot starts.
