STARTERS: Setting the stage

Many owners hit the panic button during the first weeks of the season, especially when it comes to their starting rotations.

One or two bad outings from their starting staffs can send their ERA and WHIP soaring.

This might cause owners to doubt the preparation they made leading up to their drafts. The breakout targets, sleepers, and end-game SP they targeted on draft day suddenly become disappointments. Some are prematurely dropped or shopped.

Unless you play in an extremely shallow league, this knee-jerk approach often results in missed opportunities rather than successful risk avoidance.

A better approach is to find ways to gain perspective. That will be our goal here.
