Luzardo Reaches for Better Results

Once seen as the future ace of the A’s, Jesús Luzardo (LHP, MIA) got a fresh start at the Trade Deadline in 2021 after struggling massively in the first half of 2021, with an ERA of 6.87 and a FIP of 6.09 in 38 innings. The results did not improve much in Miami in 2021, with an ERA of 6.44 and a FIP of 5.07, but Luzardo has entered 2022 with a full off-season in a new organization, and that change appears to have paid some dividends. Luzardo looks to be a somewhat new and improved pitcher, with mechanical cleanups resulting in improved stuff across the board.
