Zach Eflin (RHP, TAM) was selected by the Padres with the 33rd overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft out of Paul J. Hagerty High School (Oviedo, FL). After being involved in a couple of trades, he entered 2016 ranked as the 13th-best prospect in the Phillies organization, carrying a "7C" grade and #3 starter upside, according to our scouting writers. He made his MLB debut on June 14, 2016 at the age of 22.

Things didn't go well for him early in his MLB career, as he sported a 5.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 12% K%, and 5% BB% in 128 IP from 2016-17. Injuries plagued him, including knee issues that ultimately required late-2016 surgery to repair the patellar tendon in both knees, a fractured foot, and a shoulder strain.
