F/F SPOTLIGHT: Mark Trumbo

Mark Trumbo (OF/1B, BAL) is a 31-year-old from Anaheim, California, in the first year of a 3-year, $37.5M contract with the Orioles.  He led the majors in 2016 with 47 HR, but has fallen far short of that pace so far in 2017.  Which is the real Mark Trumbo?

Background/History

Trumbo began his pro career in 2005 in the Angels’ system after being drafted in the 18th round of the 2004 amateur draft.  In his first 3 seasons, spread over Rookie & A ball, he displayed modest power (37 HR in 1321 PA), with mediocre plate skills (7% bb%, 80% ct%, for a 0.38 Eye).  In 2008, at age 22, he was promoted to High A where he socked 26 HR in 432 PA with a .270 ISO, earning a late season promotion to AA, where he continued to mash.
