F/F SPOTLIGHT: Joey Votto

On April 17, 2019, Joey Votto did something that he hadn’t done in his first 6,828 plate appearances: he popped up to first base. This is a testament to his career hitting prowess, though any such streak will be accompanied by some good fortune along the way. However, it is also symbolic of a season in which Votto appears to have lost much of that prowess. He’s approaching age 36, so it’s fair to ask: is this the beginning of the end, or can he regain some of his former glory?
