Logan Gilbert adds cutter, Bryce Miller works on splitter

Logan Gilbert adds a cutter to his 2024 arsenal. 

Logan Gilbert (RHP, SEA) continues to add pitches to his arsenal. After introducing a split-finger fastball in 2023, Logan Gilbert threw the pitch 14.8% of the time. Gilbert's split-finger fastball has a 15.1% usage in 2024. 

The right-hander has added a cutter to his 2024 arsenal that has a 17.2% usage through five starts. 

How is Gilbert using his new cutter and how effective is the new pitch?

So far, he is using the cutter against both RHH and LHH, as he has thrown 30 cutters to RHH and 50 cutters to LHH. The right-hander is throwing it more versus LHH with an 22.3% usage compared to a 12.5% usage when facing RHH. In his last start vs. Texas on April 23, Gilbert threw 20 cutters to LHH...
