Kensuke Tanaka (LF, SF)
Hoping to jump start a sluggish offense, the Giants purchased the contract of Tanaka from Triple-A Fresno and optioned Cole Gillespie (OF, SF) back down to Fresno. The hope is Tanaka, 32, can provide solid ABs against right-handed pitching, where the Giants have really struggled this season. Tanaka signed a minor league contract with SF prior to 2013 spring training after playing 13 seasons professionally in Japan. The Japanese leagues are comparative to Triple-A level competition, and Tanaka's numbers were in line with career norms while at Fresno this season. At his time of callup, Tankaka was batting .339...
