Machado was called up to serve as the 26th man in the Royals' doubleheader on July 28th, but his profile offers little optimism for big league success in 2018. The 25-year-old Venezuelean appeared in two games for Kansas City last season and gave up nine earned runs over 3.2 IP. He hasn't fared much better this year while splitting his time between Double-A and Triple-A. So why the call-up? It's likely a matter of simply summoning a non-prospect to prevent disrupting the regular pitching patterns of their more highly touted farmhands....
