Brock Peterson (1B/OF, STL)
Peterson's first call-up gives STL a right-handed power bat off the bench while Matt Holliday (LF, STL) is on the 15-day DL with a sore right hamstring. Peterson's (29) improbable rise to the major leagues started all the way back as a 49th round draftee by the Twins in 2002. He played in the MIN organization until he was released following the 2010 season. From there he spent most of two seasons in the independent Atlantic League, before he was signed to a minor-league contract by STL and sent to Triple-A Memphis for the final 21 games of the '12 season.
