After placing C Chris Herrmann on the disabled list, the Diamondbacks promoted Freeman to the majors for the first time. The 28-year-old has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons in Triple-A and is known mostly for his defensive versatility. He’s mostly played 2B in 2016, but has experience at all outfield positions plus 3B, SS, and 1B. In other words, he can play any position on the diamond except catcher and pitcher.
