Kirk Nieuwenhuis (OF, NYM)
The Mets placed Andres Torres on the disabled list and recalled the 24-year-old Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A. The left-handed hitter returned to Triple-A to start 2012 after missing most of the 2011 campaign after hurting his shoulder in a swing. He only had 188 AB, but was well on his way to his best season as a pro. He was a third round pick in the '08 draft and is a career .280/.354/.464 hitter in the minors. Nieuwenhuis is a classic example of a player who doesn't project as a star, but has good enough tools to be a solid big league outfielder.
