April 26
Jim Miller (RHP, OAK)
The Athletics recalled the 29-year-old from Triple-A and he’ll be available in middle relief. Miller has been in the majors on two other occasions—with Baltimore in ’08 and Colorado in ’11. He once was considered a solid prospect early in his career, but he’s never capitalized on his fastball/slider combination. Miller has closing experience, though he doesn’t profile as a late-innings reliever in the majors. He uses a 90-95 mph fastball to set up a slider, his knockout pitch. As his fastball has a tendency to be straight, he is prone to hard hit balls. While he generally keeps walks to a minimum, he pitches too often to the fat part of the plate. Miller has a career 3.50 ERA, 3.3 Ctl, and 10.2 Dom.
