Last week, BaseballHQ.com’s Research & Analysis looked at batter handedness, to see if left-handed hitters (LHH) deserve their rep as better choices than right-handed hitters (RHH). Short answer: They don’t.
Part of the reason RH hitters did better in platoon differences is that LH pitchers make up a 30% minority of all pitchers, so RH hitters get to see and adapt to more same-hand pitchers than do their LH-hitting counterparts.
With that wisdom in our pocket, we now have a new hypothesis to test: That LH pitchers (LHP) should be better fantasy assets than RHP because LHPs’ relative unfamiliarity should help them, especially against LHH, where they also have the platoon advantage.
