Worley’s 2012 season hangs in the balance
Vance Worley (RHP, PHI) has been a key component on the Phillies pitching staff, especially this season where runs are hard to come by. He missed a start and is on the shelf due to inflammation in the posterior (back) part of his pitching elbow. He will rest his elbow for a week to calm down the inflammation. If it doesn’t help, then either a longer rest period or a cortisone injection may be in order.
Some do not like to use cortisone so close to the ulnar collateral ligament because the cortisone can make the ligament more brittle. The MRI and ultrasound showed the ulnar collateral ligament intact and without any tears. That is good news, but it doesn’t answer why he is having elbow pain...
