In what has become an annual tradition, we’ll take a look at some key players whose injuries in 2022 (or the off-season) might affect their 2023 risk or output.
First, a couple of quick notes. We won’t address players coming off Tommy John surgery unless there’s something interesting or unique about their situation that bears further scrutiny. Since 1974, there have been more than 2,200 recorded TJS for baseball players, so the recovery curve is well established. Pitchers with TJS typically return to the mound in about 12 months, and they return to full strength at around 18 months. However, these are averages and the results can vary widely.
