AL East: Rodríguez making pitch to stick in TOR rotation

Toronto made a change to its starting rotation on Saturday, calling up Yariel Rodríguez after the Cuban right-hander impressed in his first two starts for AAA-Buffalo (6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 10 K, 3 BB). Rodríguez pitched well in his major league debut (3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 2 BB) in a win over the Rockies. The right-hander, who is still stretching out as a starter after a delayed start to camp following visa issues and an absence for back spasms, reached 68 pitches after averaging 51 pitches in his first two outings in AAA. Rodríguez’s workload will bear monitoring throughout the year as he most recently threw 54.2 innings as a reliever for the Japanese Central League’s Chunichi Dragons in 2022 before sitting out...
