The team’s lack of starting pitching depth has been covered here numerous times, so it was no surprise to see the Marlins swing a trade to acquire Andrew Cashner (RHP, MIA) and Colin Rea (RHP, SD) on July 29. Unfortunately, Rea left his first start with the Marlins in the fourth inning and was placed on the disabled list the following day, diagnosed with a right elbow sprain. He was slated for an MRI on August 1 to determine the severity of the injury. However, they ended up trading Rea back to the Padres on August 1 for Luis Castillo (RHP, MIA), who has spent 2016 at Single-A.

Since the Marlins were unable to trade for another starting pitcher, the most likely in-house options are Justin Nicolino (LHP, MIA) and José...
