The catching position is thin. How thin, you ask? Writing for Fangraphs, Jeff Zimmerman termed catchers “a dumpster fire for a fantasy position.” And last August, BaseballHQ's own Ray Murphy wrote about ways to innovate around that problem. Gone are the days of Piazza, Pudge, and Posada. Today, fantasy leaguers are content with staunching the flow of batting average points from the gaping wounds to their rate stats inflicted by most catchers. Counting stats are welcome, but expectations are modest. The motto for rostering catchers truly is “first, do no harm.”
