Brandon Woodruff (RHP, MIL) enjoyed a breakout first half, posting a 3.67 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 108 innings. Those strong numbers were backed by an impressive 10.5 Dom and overpowering 5.0 Cmd. Given that, and the current tightly-packed National League Central, it was a disappointment for Brewers’ fans and Woodruff fantasy owners alike to see that he wouldn’t draw a start until the second series of post All-Star break action.

However, looking at Woodruff’s innings counts from prior seasons makes the decision hardly a surprise. He hasn’t surpassed 120.1 innings since 2016 (113.2 in 2018; 120.1 in 2017), and entered the break having already come dangerously close to those figures, pacing for 188 total innings. While the...
