As shown by wide variance in pre-season IP projections, rotation uncertainty is everywhereand it certainly reigns in OAK. The only near-consensus is that Sean Manaea (LHP, OAK) enters the new year as the staff "ace" despite a volatile and disappointing 2017. Age (26), pedigree and a promising 2016 debut still give the A's (and us) hope. But Manaea's control was up and down last season, and his SwK, Dom and velocity all faded throughout. With a 4.86/5.16 ERA/xERA in 15 second-half starts, he has much to prove.
