PT TOMORROW: AL West—Buyers and sellers preview

Oakland Athletics

Of all the AL West clubs, only the A's entered 2017 with the mindset of a rebuilder, suggesting that their current strong selling position is no accident. Apart from one brutal May 30 outing that is primarily responsible for that 4.57 ERA, Sonny Gray's (RHP, OAK) recent health, performance (8.1 Dom, 2.8 Cmd, 59% GB%, 3.46 xERA) and two more seasons of club control combine to make him a trade consideration for any playoff contender seeking rotation help. And as we noted last week, the club's near-MLB-ready pitching depth offers at least a few intriguing names should Gray depart. But he'll likely need to stay injury-free and productive for another month before interested clubs get anywhere close to the A's asking price.
