What happens in the next three weeks before Opening Day is likely to decide the first-base job, at least for the first 4-6 weeks of the season. Jon Singleton (1B/DH, HOU) was named the starting 1B before pitchers and catchers reported, and Houston would love to wring some kind of value from the remaining four years / $8M on his contract. But despite sharing the team AB lead through Monday, Singleton is just 3-for-27 this spring including with one HR, one walk and 11 Ks. And while it's only spring training, Singleton's performance is all too reminiscent of his career .171 BA and 58% ct% over 357 MLB AB. He'll get plenty of rope before real games begin, but barring an abrupt turnaround, Singleton appears to be nearing the...
