The ineffectiveness (to be polite) of the Red Sox rotation has been one of the more notable stories of the early season. Justin Masterson (RHP, BOS), with an ERA down to 4.71 after his May 1 start, leads the quintet, with Wade Miley (LHP, BOS) bringing up the rear, both in terms of stats (8.62 ERA) and skills (5.90 xERA, minus-46 BPV).

No change is necessarily imminent. Manager John Farrell has suggested six to eight starts is needed to get a read on a pitcher, while the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier determined that the team has generally given pitchers nine starts or more to get their act together during GM Ben Cherington’s tenure.
