Like many of their division mates, the Blue Jays have been having some issues at the back of their rotation, with Dustin McGowan's (RHP, TOR) job most in jeopardy. Perhaps unsurprisingly, McGowan, who pitched out of the Blue Jays’ bullpen in 2013, has dealt with stamina issues while registering three PQS-0s over his first four starts. The situation may be compounded by the fact that McGowan is a Type 1 diabetic, and may begin wearing an insulin pump during games.
Not only might a move to the bullpen help McGowan, but it may also help deepen a Blue Jays bullpen still dealing with the absence of closer Casey Janssen (RHP, TOR). Manager John Gibbons acknowledged he has considered such a move.
