PT TOMORROW: AL East—Heady days for Headley

In one of the cheekier entries in this year’s Baseball Forecaster, Brandon Kruse remarked that Chase Headley (3B, NYY) has been “blandly consistent,” not unlike a “bowl of rice” or “dry toast.” So, of course, who has been one of the most dynamic fantasy performers in the early season? Why, Headley, of course.

At least temporarily, Headley’s hot bat—along with the injury to Gary Sánchez (C, NYY) and struggles of Greg Bird (1B, NYY)—have helped propel Headley up in New York’s batting order. If such a promotion sticks, it could help Headley break out of the monotonous drumbeat of his season-long stat lines highlighted in the Forecaster.

As to whether he can, in fact, keep up his performance, while there are some mixed...
