PT TOMORROW: AL East—Chavis’ struggles could open door for Holt in BOS

In recent weeks, Michael Chavis (2B, BOS) has slammed headlong into dreaded “rookie wall”—or, more precisely perhaps, opposing pitchers developing a “book” on him. In a 15-game stretch beginning May 21, Chavis has gone 10-for-59 with only one HR and 27 strikeouts (54% ct%).

Specifically, Alex Cora has mentioned Chavis’ inability to lay off high fastballs. Whatever the case, the Red Sox have also had little choice but to keep writing Chavis’ name on the lineup card, what with both members of their first base platoon, Mitch Moreland (1B, BOS) and Steve Pearce (1B, BOS) on the injured list.
