PT TOMORROW: AL East — Will ‘X’ soon be an ex-Red Sox?

Last week in this space, we looked at looming changes in the division’s outfields and DH spots. This week, we turn our attention to the infields. 

Boston Red Sox

The big question in Boston’s infield is whether Xander Bogaerts (SS, BOS) will find a new home, courtesy of an opt-out in his contract. Publicly, the team has said that it would like to retain Bogaerts’ services, and certainly that is the preference of a wide swath of Red Sox Nation, too. 

But a contingency plan has emerged during the 2022 season, if Bogaerts departs: move Trevor Story (2B, BOS) back to shortstop, and let Christian Arroyo (2B, BOS) assume the bulk of the playing time at second base.
