PT TOMORROW: AL East — What to glean from initial 30-man rosters

Given the depth of their player pool, the Rays generated as much intrigue as any team as active rosters were trimmed to 30 players.

To start the season, Tampa wound up keeping 15 hitters and 15 pitchers, and there were at least a couple of surprises.

For one, the team opted to start the season with just three natural outfielders on the roster — Kevin Kiermaier (OF, TAM), Hunter Renfroe (OF, TAM) and Manuel Margot (OF, TAM) — four, if you include Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (DH, TAM), though Tsutsugo was expected to serve mostly as the team’s designated hitter in 2020.

To be sure, even without including Brian O’Grady (OF, TAM) or Randy Arozarena (OF, TAM) on the squad to start the year, the Rays do have other players who can shag...
