The Royals brought Zack Greinke (RHP, KC) home this off-season on a one-year deal, hoping that he still had some gas left in the tank and the ability to mentor a plethora of young KC starters. Greinke hasn’t provided the help they’ve needed, however, as his ratios are his worst since 2005 and his K/9 and K/BB are at career-worst levels. Injury shelved Greinke on May 30, as he hit the IL with a right forearm strain. Things may be about to turn for Greinke, however.

In his first rehab start for Triple-A Omaha, Greinke only needed 49 pitches to retire 15 of the 16 hitters he faced, striking out four. Though the start wasn’t long, KC may not need him to get any more stretched out before inserting him back into their...
