NL West: It’s time to take Randy Vásquez seriously

Randy Vásquez has been locked into the Padres’ rotation, with no question that he was going to get plenty of innings this season. Still, most fantasy managers had little interest in rostering Vásquez unless in deep leagues. His career has been long enough to establish the Padres’ No. 3 starter as a streamer option at best.

But something is different. Really different. In late 2025, Vasquez quietly added velocity, a change that especially impacted his results in August through October. His velo, which had been around 95 mph max for most of the year, started ticking closer to 96 mph in August, and then jumped to 98 mph by October.
