NL Central: Outfielders fighting to keep their jobs

The short-term impacts of Jordan Walker (OF, STL) joining the big-league club in St. Louis were covered early last week in PT Today. So far, the team has stuck to its promise to only play Walker against left-handed pitchers, which has created some shakeup to the Cardinals lineup. It’s worth remembering that the corresponding move for Walker was Matt Carpenter (DH, STL) landing on the IL, a player who had picked up only 125 total plate appearances this season, 17 of which came against lefties. Thus, a player currently healthy and on the active roster is going to lose out. The primary loser thus far has been Lars Nootbaar (OF, STL), who has yet to appear in a lineup with Walker.
